Played on the 7th of September, 2019 at Baisley Ground. GT Challengers won the the toss and asked Phoenix to take first strike in a 30 overs affair.
Phoenix lost their opening pair early, with little contribution towards the score. It was when Nicholas Chinkoo joined the former GCC player Wasim Haslim at the crease the score started to accelerate.
Chinkoo’s 139 came off just 80 balls which included 6 boundaries and 13 maximums. He was supported by Andy Mohammed (20) and Ryan Ramnarine (30). When the overs expired Pheonix CC posted a challenging total of 268 for 8.
In reply GT Challengers fell short of the total by 27 runs. Opening batsman Chris Melvin managed to score 44 with some support from other players who got decent starts but failed to carry on. Notably Navin Dewlall and Akeem Dodson, scored 45 from 42 balls and 41 from 20 balls respectively.
Pick of the bowlers for Phoenix was Hemindra Ramdihal who struck 4 times in his 6 overs for 44.
Player of the match Nicholas Chinkoo has been in sublime batting for as he is the leading runs scorer for the season games with 356 and also the leading the way in the play offs with 139. Chinkoo is also number 1 in the running to pick up the MVP award for the season games as well as the playoffs.
