ST. JOHN’S, Antigua- Kent CCC took the top spot in Group B of the Super50 Cup in Antigua, after a 3-wicket victory over Guyana Jaguars at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
Jaguars Captain, Leon Johnson won the toss and elected to bat first in a match-up of the top two teams in Group B. Fresh off a defeat to Jamaica on Thursday night, the Jaguars were looking to get back to winning ways.
The Spitfire bowlers had the top four Guyanese batsmen back in the dressing room before the Jaguars score reached 30. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the first to go for 3, followed by Chanderpaul Hemraj for 5, Shimron Hetmyer for 10, and Captain Leon Johnson for 1.
Christopher Barnwell and Sherfane Rutherford then provided some foundation for the Jaguars innings with a 58-run partnership before Rutherfod fell for 22. Barnwell fell right after for 36.
Veerasammy Permaul and Shepherd then added 36 together before the last 2 wickets fell.
Guyana Jaguars all out for 158 from 47.1 overs. Bowling for Kent CCC, Will Gidman finished with figures of 4/20 from 10 overs.
Kent Spitfires looked set to finish the match, as openers Daniel Bell-Drummond and Zak Crawley were blasting the ball to the boundary around the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
The total reach 57 before Devendra Bishoo got the breakthrough when he removed Zak Crawley for 28.
Romario Shepherd then had Bell-Drummond caught for 26 in the very next over and no further addition to the total.
Sean Dickson and Alex Blake then bolstered the Spitfires middle innings, with a partnership of 37.
Kent then lost two quick wickets but will Gidman and James Tredwell on 29 not out and 12 not out, respectively got their team to the required target of 159.
Kent CCC finished the match on 162/7 in 37 overs. Devendra Bishoo was the pick of the Jaguars bowlers with figures of 4/35.
Will Gidman was Man of the Match for his 29 not out and 4/20.
Leeward Islands Hurricanes vs USA Cricket
USA Cricket shocked the Leeward Islands Hurricanes with a 59-run defeat at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.
Hurricanes won the toss and sent the Americans in to bat. Openers Sunny Sohal and Jaskaran Malhotra tallied 81 on the board before Malhotra fell for 38. Sohal went on to score another half-century before he fell for 50.
The USA middle order all fell cheaply. They eventually posted a total of 193 all out in 50 overs, which included 24 extras.
Bowling for the Hurricanes, Terrance Warde took 3/34.
The Leewards batsmen never looked settles and though the runs were steady, so were the wickets.
Justin Athanaze top-scored for the Hurricanes with 47 not out, as his team was bowled out for 134 in 40.5 overs, and handing USA Cricket their first win of the tournament by 59 runs.
Nosthush Kenjige was Man of the Match.
