THERE WERE a lot of empty seats at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba on Tuesday night as home team Trinbago Knight Riders went under to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 38 runs in the first Hero Caribbean Premier League playoff.
The official estimate of attendance on Tuesday was 5,700 which is well short of the estimated capacity of around 14,000.
In fact, the only packed stand was the “mound” where the cheapest seats in the house went at just US$30. The prices, as quoted by kyazoonga.com, ranged from US$50 for the regular stands, US$90 for the Tribe Party Stand, US$135 for the Red Stand (premium all-inclusive) and US$140 for CPL VIP seats.
Home team skipper Dwayne Bravo even alluded to low supporter turn out, saying: “A big game like this, I have to say it was a poor turnout but I think for the people, it is a hassle to come inside here.”
