Sunrisers Hyderabad have taken a massive step towards sealing their place in the playoffs spot by beating table-toppers and high flyers Kolkata Knight Riders in the 37th match of the 10th edition of the IPL at their home venue of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Hyderabad, put into bat first by Kolkata Knight Riders, registered a massive score on the board of 209/3 thanks to a blistering century by captain David Warner. Kolkata Knight Riders in reply could only score 161/7, losing the match by 48 runs.
Batting first, David Warner took the much acclaimed Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack to the cleaners, scoring 126 off just 59 deliveries. Together with opening partner Shikhar Dhawan, the pair put on an opening partnership of 139 runs. This set the platform for Sunrisers Hyderabad to explode and they set a massive score of 210 for Kolkata Knight Riders to chase down.
In reply, Kolkata lost the openers early and it was also going to be a difficult task for them to chase the massive score down. Robin Uthappa, though, continued his astounding form in the tournament and scored another half-century to give the Kolkata-based outfit some hope of chasing the score down. But once young Siraj got his wicket, the match was set to head only one way and in the end, Hyderabad walked away with a crucial victory at home.
Hyderabad now have 13 points from 10 matches, while Kolkata still tops the table with 14 points in 10 games.
