Windsor Forest defeated Canal #2 Sports club in the opening fixture of the WDCA T20

The West Demerara Cricket Association launched its first competitive cricket tournament for the year, a t20 competition which will be played in a round robin stage. The tournament has seen 20 teams registered so far and were places into 4 zones.

The launching took place on Saturday 22nd of April, 2017 at Canal #2 Sports Club ground. A brief opening ceremony was held where Chairman of the Competition Committee Mr Omar Hussain spoke about the tournament rules and future plans the association will be looking to put forward.

The opening match of the tournament saw Windsor Forest Centre Team defeated the home team, Canal #2 Sports Club by 43 runs.

Windsor Forest won the toss and elected to bat first and put up a solid total of 203 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs on a very fast outfield. The batting side lost opener Rohan Harrinarine off the second ball of the innings with scoring. The 3rd wicket partnership proved fruitful for Windsor Forest as the pair put on 108 before skipper Deoram Chanderbir fell for 44. Muneshwar Balgobin opened the batting and top scored with 82, Avinash Ganesh and Yudestir Parbhudin chipped in with 24 and 17 respectively.

Chibiraj Ramcharan pick up 4 wickets for 24 from his 4 overs and was supported by Parmanand Ragnauth who claimed 3 for 20 from 3 overs.

When Sports Club returned with the bat they were in trouble as the lost the wicket of their captain Chibiraj Ramcharan in the first over and M Partabji in the second over. Dharmendra Lackan top scored with 49. Other useful contributions with the came from Yogendra Singh (37), Randy Yankana (24) and Brian Puran (22*).

Dindyal Guyadeen and Avinash Ganesh both picked up 2 wickets for 28 from their 3 overs. While Lalta Suknanan claimed 1 for 19 in his 4 overs. Rohan Harrinarine turned the screw on Canal #2 Sports Club with a tidy spell of 1 for 17 from his 4 overs as Sports Club reached a total of 160 for 8.
