GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Guyana Jaguars were crowned Regional four-day champions for a third straight year here Monday when they crushed Windward Islands Volcanoes by an innings and 122 runs in their final round game.
The hosts needed just 55 deliveries and less than an hour to bundle out Volcanoes for 162 in their second innings, and wrap up victory inside three days at the Guyana National Stadium.
With the win, Jaguars moved to an unassailable 131.4 points, with their rescheduled ninth round game against Leeward Islands Hurricanes still to be played this coming weekend.
They are well clear of their closest challengers Barbados Pride who were locked in a keen battle with Jamaica Scorpions at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
On Monday, Man-of-the-Match seamer Keemo Paul grabbed three of the five wickets to fall to finish with three for 36 and match figures of nine for 64, while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie picked up four for 45.
Veteran Devon Smith, unbeaten overnight on 60, added just one before being dismissed in the fourth over of the morning.
Shane Shillingford provided a late flourish to the innings when he clobbered a robust unbeaten 35 from just 24 deliveries, with five fours and two sixes.
However, he found no support from the lower order and the innings petered out tamely around him.
