Berbice dethroned Demerara in yesterday’s low-scoring encounter that saw just 181 runs being scored in 84.1 overs on the batsman’s paradise that is the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pitch at Bourda.

This concluded yet another disappointing tournament organized by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), this game being played without a team scoring more than 200 runs in any innings, while less than five half-centuries were scored. This tournament was also testimony to the poor programmes available for the youngsters’ development and for the growth of cricket locally.
Deciding to bat first, Demerara laboured to 90 all out in 44.5 overs; with only Movindra Dindyal with 24, Brandon Jaikarran with 12, and Andre Seepersaud with 10 reaching double-figures in a poor display of batting on a track that was conducive for a scintillating batting display.
Berbice skipper Marvan Prashad led the demolition proceedings for his team with figures of 3 for 14 from 8.5 overs, while Daniel Dharamdat, Garaj Ramesh and Hemraj Harrilall all captured two scalps apiece.
In reply, the unit from the Ancient County slipped to 19 for 3 in 12.2 overs, before Prashad led his troops with a match winning innings of 38 from 97 deliveries, to complete an outstanding day of all-round good performances.
However, the visitors themselves had to labour for a prolonged period, losing five wickets before they accomplished the win in 39.2 overs. Asif Amoi scored 24 not out off 33 deliveries to support his skipper. Berbice ended on 91 for 5 from 39.2 overs in the process of being crowned champions. Andre Seepersaud was the hosts’ best bowler, claiming figures of 2 for 9 from 10 superb overs.
