Victories for East Coast, East Bank

East Bank Demerara and East Coast Demerara recorded comfortable victories against their respective counterparts West Demerara and Georgetown in Demerara Under 15 Inter-Association action yesterday.
East Bank defeated West Demerara by 10 wickets chasing a challenging total at the Everest Cricket Club ground while host East Coast scored a comprehensive 99 run victory over Georgetown at Ogle ground.

In the match in the city, West Demerara were inserted to bat and rattled up 167-7 in their 50 overs with Andre Seepersaud (50) and Vishaul Persaud 33 the principal scorers. At the start of the innings, West Demerara lost two early wickets but due to a solid partnership worth 120 runs between Seepersaud and Persaud they were able to set what was expected to be a competitive total.
Cameron Defreitas 3-33 from nine overs and Alex Arinda with two wickets were the chief wick takers for East Bank.
In their strong response East Bank reached 170 without loss to secure a mammoth victory. Openers Mavendra Dindyal 78 from 112 balls with eight fours and Chad Shivrattan 68 from 103 deliveries batted through the innings. Shivrattan had a good game with ball also as he bowled 10 overs for 25 runs.
East Bank also benefitted from 24 extras.
In the other match Georgetown failed to reach their target of 172 to win against East Coast, who scored 171-8 from 50 overs. Edmond Pearson (57 not out) led with the bat for East Coast and was supported by Shoaib Shaw who made 40.
Bowling for Georgetown, Hemant Dalit claimed 4-30 from six overs and Zechariah Mootoo got 2-15 from 10 overs.
The visitors fell for 72 in 27.3 overs in their turn at the crease as Devanand Khemraj 2-10 from 10 was destructive with the ball.
In the next round on Friday, Georgetown and West Demerara will clash at Everest while East Coast and East Bank will do battle at Ogle.
