Cristiano Ronaldo capped off a perfect Monday by picking up an award for being the best player in La Liga.
The Portuguese star had appeared with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez earlier in the day, after agreeing a new five-year contract to stay at the Bernabeu until 2021.
And he followed up that media conference by attending the Marca Awards dinner, where he picked up the Alfredo di Stefano award for La Liga’s best player.
“Last season was filled with many emotions, with the Champions League and the European Championship,” Ronaldo said.
“But today has also been a very special day with my contract renewal and a prize from Marca, what else can I ask for?
“I’m very happy. This motivates me to keep working and get better in the next few years.”
Ronaldo scored 35 goals and contributed 11 assists for Real Madrid last season, helping his club to the Champions League title and captaining his country to victory at Euro 2016.
The 31-year-old, who has vowed to continue playing for another decade, is the favourite to win the 2016 Ballon d’Or (the leading award for the world’s best footballer).
Ronaldo will now team up with his country for their World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Sunday, before returning to his club side for an important run of games that sees Real face neighbours Atletico Madrid and closest rivals Barcelona in their next three league matches.
