Pathan smashes 159 for Ambassadors CC in SCA 20/20.

Canadian National All-rounder Rayyankhan Pathan turned up the heat on a chilly Fall day in  the Scarborough Cricket Association’s 20/20 competition. In the first of the two games scheduled, Pathan blitzed his way to a league record scoring 159 in a match reduced to 18

overs due to slow over rate by the opposition, Victoria Park . Pathan’s knock included 11 towering sixes , 3 of which landed on the road at the Ashtonbeee ground ,and 10 well placed fours to completely deflate the bowling attack. Ambassadors finished with a mammoth 223-3 from 18 overs . Pathan was admirably supported by Australian Craig Murdoch (24) who rotated the strike at will. Victoria Park needing 224 runs at 12.45 runs per over to secure a win , finished at 155-7 when their overs expired. They were immediately pegged back when opener Anand Errramali had his off-stump uprooted in the 2nd over, and never really recovered to threaten the target. Although aided by some sloppy fielding and dropped catches, the Ambassadors attack recovered with Ronald Ramnarine 4-22, Naveed Ali 1-12, Neil Ramkissoon 1-37.

In the second game , Ambassadors faced up against Highland Creek Cricket Club in what was the final game of the SCA Season. Batting first Ambassadors put up a challenging 148 from their allotted 20 overs with Rayyankhan Pathan and  Craig Murdoch again among the runs with 45 and 39 respectively ,  Navin Seelochan also chipped in with 25. Chasing 149 for victory and a chance at clinching the 20/20 title, Highland Creek were skittled out for a paltry 68 in 18 overs courtesy of some aggressive and accurate bowling . Pacers Naveed Ali (2-12) and Pathan (1-12) accounted for the top order while spinners Ryan Ramnarine(4-9) and Ahmed Kabir (2-18) finished off proceedings in a hasty manner.

Meanwhile, in an invited comment from Rayyankhan Pathan, he noted that he was grateful  to Ambassadors Cricket Club for the opportunity to play in the SCA league and being able to perform as was expected of him. Pathan has been in tremendous form with the bat recently, scoring 93,58,159,45 in his last 4 innings. He also expressed his disappointment at not being selected for Canada  in the upcoming Auty cup in Los Angeles, and hopes he can continue to churn out big performances to force his way back into the team.
