Lankans C.C Bow Out as Rain Forces Abandonment of Playoff Quarterfinal.

Toronto based Lankans Cricket Club had their 2016 playoff campaign brought to a damp end, as persistent rain forced an abandonment of their Playoff Quarterfinal. Set to play against Nexus Cricket Club after finishing 6th overall in the regular season, Lankans opted to field first in overcast  conditions. Only 1 over was possible before the constant rain started , both teams were very optimistic of a resumption of play. At 3:15pm the two umpires made their final inspection and agreed with the captains that there is no possibility of further play at the Eglington Flats venue.

As a  result of the abandonment and according to the Leagues’ rules , which favoured Nexus Cricket Club by means of a better Net Run Rate , Nexus will advance to the semi-final . Despite both teams recording 10 wins from their 16 preliminary games, Lankans came up on the wrong end by virtue of a lower net run rate.

The 2016 Season saw some commendable contributions with both bat and ball, the notable ones are:

Imraan Khan : 15 inns , 473 runs , avg 33.7 , highest 87 , 30 wickets

Mahesh Richard : 8 inns , 303 runs , avg 37.8 , highest 107

Lahiru Gallage : 10 inns , 248 runs , avg 31 , highest 50 , 14 wickets

Sumudu Gunathilaka : 9 inns , 231 runs , avg 28.8 , highest 73 , 17 wickets

Naveed Ali : 7 inns , 193 runs , avg 38.6 , highest 87 , 12 wickets

Roshan Manikavasager : 8 inns , 118 runs , avg 19 , highest 33 , 17 wickets
