The 2016 TDCA Division 2 table toppers Go Green Cricket Club were out played by second placed Lankans Cricket Club in a game that saw 614 runs scored in 78 overs. The game was set to be an entertaining one, since the last time these two teams met the rain intervened and caused an unfortunate duckworth/lewis result. In their first meeting this season , Go Green CC amassed 350 runs from their allotted 40 overs , in reply Lankans fell short by 11 runs when the rains came just after the 20 over cut off point to constitute a game.

Lankans won the toss and opted to bat first on what looked like a good wicket with ideal batting conditions. Sumudu Gunathilaka anchored the innings with a well composed 73 that had some crisp drives and well timed lofted sixes. When he departed at 6 wickets down in the 18th over, Lankans were in a spot of bother with a threat of being bowled out cheaply. Guyanese Naveed Ali and Ashtaq Mohamed came together and forged a match winning partnership with Ali hitting a belligerent 87 inclusive of 9 towering sixes and 5 fours. Mohamed batted sensibly and picked singles to rotate the strike , the partnership was eventually broken when Ali was caught on the extra cover boundary , Mohamed  then lofted a few boundaries to continue the momentum, he was left stranded on 30* when last man Tony Sarap got bowled for 4.

Lankans 309-10 ( Naveed Ali 87, Sunudu Gunathilaka 73, Ashtaq Mohamed 30*, Mahesh Richard 20… Mohamed Amirat 4-52)

Go Green needing 310 runs at 7.75 runs per over started their chase brightly until their captain and highest run scorer Luqman Rafique was caught in the 4th over for 7. Akram Khan(37)  and Sajid Siddique(45)  rode their luck as catches went begging off both batsmen, but a fighting 105 from Mohammed Amirat was not enough to see Go Green home as the Lankans bowlers tightened their grip in the middle overs. Needing an improbable 27 to win from the last over, A. Shujaat chanced his hand and was aided by some ordinary bowling as he hit 3 sixes off the last 3 balls in the innings to finish at 305-9.

Go Green CC ( M. Amirat 105, S. Siddique 45, A. Khan 37… R. Manikavasager 3-58 , I. Khan 2-58, N. Ali 1-37).

Both teams have secured playoff spots.
