Lankans Cricket Club piled up 2 wins from their last 3 games in the Toronto District Cricket League’s 40 over competition . On the 23rd july at the Eglington Flats venue in Toronto , Lankans opted to bat first against SOFF Cricket Club and were off to an inauspicious start when they lost 2 quick wickets within the first 3 overs , that brought Guyanese Mahesh Richard to the crease who immediately signaled his intent with some mighty sixes and well timed fours ,he eventually fell for a well played 108(8 sixes , 8 fours). Fellow Guyanese Imran Khan who eventually fell for a well played 70 ( 5 sixes) lent valuable support to Richard to deflate the opposition. The innings came to a close in the 24th over when the score was on 256-7 due to poor over rate and the number of sixes that went out of the ground. SOFF in their reply were bowled out in the 24th over for 106 with only 2 batsmen going past 20 , Guyanese Naveed Ali grabbed 4 – 29 from 6 overs and Roshan Manikavasager had 4-9 from 4 overs.
On Sunday 24th July Lankans took on Cricket Club of Canada at the Eglington Flats Ground, after winning the toss Lankans opted to take first strike . The innings got off to a slow start but much needed impetus was provided when number 6 batsman and stand in captain Lahiru Gallage made 42 ( 5 fours , 2 sixes) his efforts were backed up by an unbeaten 30 (3 fours, 1 six) from Naveed Ali when the innings closed at 163-8 from 40 overs. When CCC began their reply they were immediately set back with opening bowlers Imran Khan and Naveed Ali picked up a wicket each in their first over. Harakran Mann and Ali Shahid put up a fighting 61 for the 5th wicket to bring the game back in a balance before Shahid hit a few lusty blows to seal the win with 5 balls remaining. Bowling for Lankans CC , Imran Khan , Naveed Ali and Sumudu Gunathilaka had 2 wickets each.
At the picturesque Sunnybrook Cricket Field on 30th July , Lankans came up against Stalions CC . Opting to bat first Stallions posted a challenging 207-8 in 40 overs ( Malik Waqas 66 , Naeem Qazi 39 , Imraan Khan 4-26 ). Lankans started their chase on a positive note with John Rajendram hitting 6 fours on his way to 29 , Shehaan Sarap batted sensibly for 34* ( 3 fours) and partnered Naveed Ali 38* (4 sixes , 3 fours) when victory was achieved in the 32nd over . Lankans CC now move onto 5 wins from 8 games and are looking to secure a playoff spot for this years 2nd division championship.
